THE CLUB
Activities
More than 30 groups with special interests, so-called “Interest Groups”, play an important role in our club life. They bring IWC members together in smaller circles, depending on their interests.
Members’ various interests are explored and cultivated. Mostly in private setting, people meet to talk about topics such as literature, language, history, gardening, signs of the zodiac and wine. And, these meetings are held not solely in German but also alternatively, in French, English, Italian and Spanish. For example. the members may play bridge, meet for golf or gymnastics, or cook international specialties together.
Some other activities include museum visits and sightseeing tours in and around Frankfurt. Music lovers meet too, for lectures and concerts, and singing in the IWC choir.
Art I- Museum- and Gallery visits in the Frankfurt area
Dritter Donnerstag im Monat: 11 Uhr Zeit fürs Museum.
Die Kunstgruppe des IWC trifft sich im Foyer des zu besuchenden Museums. Es ist immer schön, sich zu treffen und auszutauschen. Eine Art Social Hour. Die Führung durch die Ausstellungen – meistens kompetent, geistreich und auch humorvoll – dauert ca. eine Stunde. Wir besuchen die aktuellen Ausstellungen in den wundervollen Museen in und um Frankfurt. Anschließend in einem Café oder Restaurant rund um die Museen lassen wir unsere Eindrücke Revue passieren.

Conversation et cuisine françaises
Notre groupe de „Conversation et cuisine françaises“ se retrouve en général une fois par mois, le mercredi chez l'une ou l'autre participante de notre groupe.
Wir nehmen als Basis unserer Diskussion einen Text, entweder ein französisches aktuelles Thema, Museums- Eröffnung, wie z.B. die Bourse du Commerce in Paris oder ein neues Buch. Manchmal diskutieren wir auf der Basis eines Artikels über bekannte französische Persönlichkeiten. Anschließend sitzen wir zusammen und sprechen weiter bei einem französischen Essen.

English Book Club
The English Book Club meets every first Monday afternoon of the month at one of the chairpersons' homes to discuss the book of the month in a convivial atmosphere over a cup of tea or coffee. It is a small group consisting of at least six different nationalities. In the more than eight years that the group has been in existence, an eclectic spectrum of almost 100 books by various authors of different nationalities has been read and discussed, all of whom have written or are still writing in English.
The selection of books by past and present authors is huge, so that an interesting list from different genres can be compiled.

All about plants
Seit 2010 gibt es die Gartengruppe „Es grünt so grün“. Unsere „Paten“, aus der vor 40 Jahren gegründeten und inzwischen aufgelösten Gruppe „Blumen und Gärten“ machten uns Lust auf so viele interessante Themen, die auch heute, nach 14 Jahren noch nicht erschöpft sind.
Die Mitglieder treffen sich regelmäßig am letzten Dienstag im Monat. Die Gastgeberin referiert über ein Thema und verwöhnt die Gruppe mit leckeren Speisen, z.T. zum Thema passend. Die Themen sind weit gefasst, Umweltschutz, Pflanzensorten, historische Themen, Pflanzenschutz u.v.m.
Gäste sind in begrenzter Zahl willkommen und bei Exkursionen z.B. zu Ausstellungen und Besichtigungen gern gesehen.

Wir treffen uns in der Regel am vierten Donnerstagabend im Monat für einen Vortrag in einem Restaurant, immer mal wieder gibt‘s auch eine Führung. Danach sitzen wir noch gemütlich beim Essen zusammen.

Frankfurt insight
Founded in September 2013, the intention was to offer IWC members the opportunity to discover and get to know Frankfurt and its diverse neighborhoods.
Under the expert guidance of well-known Frankfurt city guides, participants have already been able to discover some hidden treasures and places in Frankfurt and the surrounding area that are not otherwise accessible. These include the new Frankfurt Old Town, which was explored in a three-part series of tours from the start of its reconstruction to its completion.
The themed city tours offer not only newcomers but also Frankfurt insiders surprising and deep insights into the colorful and mysterious life and soul of this city. The chairpersons want to show the Frankfurt of today and yesterday, its districts, its surroundings, its history, and its people. During the tours of Frankfurt's cemeteries, you can learn interesting facts about deceased celebrities, and at the main cemetery, you will also pass the grave of honor of our club founder, Ms. Elisabeth Norgall.
Frankfurt's golden twenties, its difficult fifties after the destruction, its churches and monasteries, its small and large “temples of art,” its popular “Viktualienmarkt,” the Kleinmarkthalle, its significance as an economic center, city of literature and music, its strong women, but also its “non-places” and “quirky corners” with all that they entail, will be made familiar to the participants.
Every member is welcome to take part in the tours, which are presented with a great deal of humor and enthusiasm. To round off the tour, we stop at a nearby café/restaurant for a convivial get-together.
Paid tours are held about four times a year.

Die Mitglieder treffen sich monatlich in einem Raum am Dornbusch in Frankfurt, wobei ent-weder ein Gruppen-mitglied oder ein auswärtiger Gast über ein historisches Thema referiert.
Im vergangenen Jahr lauteten die Themen zum Beispiel: „Die Geschichte der Entzifferung der Hie-roglyphen“, „Die Entzifferung der Maya-Schrift“, „Das Geheimnis der Osterinseln“, „Wie die Frankfurter zum Baden erzogen wurden“ und „Faszination Chemie- Brauen, Backen, Heilen seit 7000 Jah-ren“.
In diesem Jahr beschäftigten uns die Themen „Königreich Benin – Ein verlorenes Land und seine geraubte Kunst“, „Die Homburger Landgrafen“ und „Frankfurt und die 1848er Revolution“. Ergänzt wurde unser Programm durch den Besuch der Ausstellung „Kindheit im Wandel“ im Deutschen Romantik Museum und eine Stadtführung durch die Altstadt von Oberursel.
Aber auch das leibliche Wohl kommt nicht zu kurz! Anschließend an unsere Treffen gibt es die Möglichkeit eines gemeinsamen Mittagessens.

Why would anyone want to go to Offenbach on a Monday evening?
The IWC choir consists mainly of IWC members and meets weekly on Monday evenings, except during school holidays. Led by a trained choir director and vocal coach who has a wonderful sense for selecting pieces of music for the respective choir voices and a “conductor's touch” for motivating the singers so that they can joyfully take on the challenge each week.
A women's choir is a group of women or girls singing in unison or in multiple voices, with multiple singers in each voice range. The voice types are: 1st soprano, 2nd soprano, 1st alto, 2nd alto.
That's the definition from the free encyclopedia Wikipedia. But WHAT is the IWC Choir? It is also a group of women singing in multiple voices, BUT it is much more than that.
It is joy in music, it is weekly fitness training for body, voice, and mind, it lifts spirits and comforts.

We meet once a month for a cinema afternoon or evening, watching films either in German or in the original version (English, French, Italian, or Spanish). If you're interested in joining, please contact the chairpersons. The film and venue will be announced at the latest one week before the event. Each participant purchases her own ticket. We meet approximately 30 minutes before the screening starts and enjoy a chat over drinks afterwards to share our impressions.

For many years, a member of the club has been organizing a monthly table at various restaurants in Frankfurt and inviting people to join in a relaxed chat. Women interested in the club are welcome to join, and you can also drop in spontaneously without registering. The meeting takes place near you and you have nothing planned for the Meet&talK evening? Then come along and get to know us! We'll talk about old and new developments in the club and discuss anything else that's on your mind.

Musik meets IWC
Im September 2013 wurde die Musikgruppe mit dem Ziel gegründet die klassische Musik in allen Facetten näher zu bringen
Bei monatlichen Treffen erleben die Mitglieder Hauskonzerte mit namhaften Künstlern, Vorträge über Oper, Orchester und Künstler oder besuchen Konzerte und Meisterkurse; dabei haben sie künstlerisch hohe Ansprüche.
Zudem besichtigten sie u.a. das Romantikmuseum in Frankfurt und das Casals Forum in Kronberg. Großen Wert wird bei dieser Gruppe aber auch auf Freundschaft und Zugewandtheit gelegt.
Bei monatlichen Treffen erleben die Mitglieder Hauskonzerte mit namhaften Künstlern, Vorträge über Oper, Orchester und Künstler oder besuchen Konzerte und Meisterkurse; dabei haben sie künstlerisch hohe Ansprüche.
Zudem besichtigten sie u.a. das Romantikmuseum in Frankfurt und das Casals Forum in Kronberg. Großen Wert wird bei dieser Gruppe aber auch auf Freundschaft und Zugewandtheit gelegt.

The chairperson lives in Oberursel /Taunus, which is surrounded by beautiful forests and hiking trails, and exploring these trails is one of her hobbies.
She would like to encourage members to come and join her in new experiences.
She is sure that many have very busy lives, but some of their time could be spent bringing this activity into club life and creating another opportunity to get to know each other and develop friendships in a fun and fresh atmosphere.
At the moment, the hiking plans are rated easy to moderately difficult, and the chairperson is trying to select routes with good connections, access to restaurants, and parking spaces, and to limit the activity time on Fridays to three hours.
She would like to encourage members to come and join her in new experiences.
