Regular Meeting November 2021

"It is the encounters with people that make life worth living"

True to this motto by Guy de Maupassant, the IWC Frankfurt celebrated its 75th anniversary, a celebration that once again highlighted the friendly togetherness of many nationalities overso many years, in the spirit of the club's founder Elisabeth Norgall.

In the ballroom of the Steigenberger - Frankfurter Hof, festively decorated by our club friends, the background noise at the reception made it clear how much the IWC members enjoyed the personal encounter. The 155 guests had a lot to tell each other.

After the welcome by our President Yong-Hi Yim-Siegels, Mayor Dr Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg said in her greeting from the city of Frankfurt:

"It is the direct exchange of thoughts and experiences, the experience of togetherness, that makes us grow personally and as a society"

Then our president took us to her homeland with Korean women artists.

The musician Woorim Chun with her Gayageum, a traditional Korean plucked instrument, and the dancer Yunhee Choi with her performance of a fan dance (Buchaechum) enchanted all guests with their skills and colourful costumes.

In addition to the Far Eastern grace, Björn Grün (saxophone) and Stefan Heller (double bass) set the mood with melodies from the IWC's founding days.

The birthday serenade was taken over by the IWC choir under the direction of Christa Fülster with musical catchy tunes from the past decades, from “Penny Lane”, “Un poquito cantas” and “Feel the rhythm” to “Marmor, Stein und Eisen bricht” and “Dancing Queen”.

In a retrospective, Yong-Hi Yim-Siegels and Roseann Padula brought 75 years of world events and IWC history to life. History and history tales - a dialogue that was as vivid as it was amusing. It will be a pleasure to read the text again, which can be found on the following pages.

We were touched by the honoring of our long-standing members Magda Boulos-Enste, Käte Kämpny, Anneliese Reimelt, Ingrid Austermühle, Helga Grellert und Gabriele du Fresne von Hohenesche, who were presented with their honorary certificates and bouquets of flowers in person.

"What a Wonderful World" what better ending to the anniversary celebration than this classic by Louis Armstrong, played by Woorim Chun on the Gayageum and accompanied by Yunhee Choi on the dance floor - in front of a beautiful backdrop.

Many members captured this enchanting moment photographically.

What a Wonderful World-

"I see friends shaking hands

Saying how do you do

They're really saying

I love you"

Especially in today's times, friendship gives confidence and strength for the present and the future.

To commemorate the 75th anni-versary, each guest received a small IWC anniversary glass with flowers as a souvenir, and each club member also received an anniversary booklet.
